six reasons why winter weddings aren't so bad
Okay y’all, I’ve had more winter weddings than ever + just might be OBSESSED! Summer + fall weddings are super popular in the midwest, but I’m here to tell you that there are so many advantages to having a winter wedding. Before I get to those reasons, let me be the first to say that I wasn’t really a fan of winter weddings/the idea of a winter wedding until these past couple of months — now, I kinda just wanna shoot winter weddings LOL (only kidding, but here’s my PSA for more winter weddings!!!). I’m not engaged just yet, but what girl hasn’t been thinking about their wedding since they were 10 years old?! Sidenote: have you ever went back on your Pinterest and looked at your old wedding board, or is that just me?! #ThankGoodnessYouCantActuallyGetMarriedThatYoung 😂
…but for real: let’s get started!!
THE WEATHER
You're probably thinking “duh Tannah,” but hear me out.
Let’s just briefly state that the humidity is wayyyyy down in the wintertime, yay for curls that hold and limited frizz! + if you’re lucky for it to snow….I mean come on! Absolutely beautiful. If not, evergreens, empty fields, or architectural structures make beautiful backdrops (depending on your style). Most of the amazing venues that are popping up everywhere are all season + pretty too! There are typically many options inside + out to accommodate guests (+ your photog 😏) + again, since we are in the midwest, you might catch a beautiful day that’s sunny and 50 degrees — I don’t know about you, but that’s not too bad either! Yay for not sweating your make-up off.
2. AVAILABILITY
Maybe you’re like me + have a crazy schedule or don’t wanna wait 3 years to get married — but it’s obvious that venues book up quickly. The winter months tend to be slower for most wedding vendors, including venues — it might be your chance to get married sooner! I also know that sometimes vendors what their calendars filled + might be willing to work within your budget when things aren’t absolutely crazy. It seems like summer is such a busy time with vacations + everything else, along with the crazy fall season too! Typically, your guests/family will have more flexible schedules in the wintertime too. It’s a win-win for everyone. be different!
3. DECOR
Winter weddings can be so fun to decorate! You really can go as simple or extravagant as you want. + there are so many tasteful ways to do it. You can go the more natural route with some plain Christmas trees, pine cones, winter greenery, sparkly decor, I mean the options are endless. Anything from a more casual vibe to a black tie. So many of these venues are pretty already, just add a bit of your touch + call it good! With all the sales around the holidays + your families stash of winter decor — it’ll be easy to pull together! Snow would be the free decoration that ties it all together like the cover of a magazine. You can really cozy a space up to fit the vibe you’re going for.
4. Accessorizing
It’s no secret that I am a big fan of accessorizing (gimme all the turquoise please). Buttttt, I recently fell IN LOVE with a fur coat that I am thinking would be stunning on a bride in her dress! My most recent bride wore some of her momma’s vintage fur + it was absolutely perfect. What a cool way to tie in some sentimental pieces too! “Monogrammed” jean jackets are a hit right now too + look amazing up against some snow. I’m also a huge texture person, the colder weather allows you to. layer up + wear textures you might not typically see. Think of all the options — scarves, jackets/coats, layers on layers, etc. Little details like these can make your special day even better!
5. THE HONEYMOON
Not everyone’s dream honeymoon is on a beach somewhere, but if it is, what better time to escape the cold for some sand between your toes?! It seems like with many peoples work schedules they sometimes have to wait to go on their honeymoon until the winter months anyway, why not knock it all out at once?! I realize “the holidays” are a busy time, but when isn’t it busy? Plus, mega sales are going down which means people can get more bang for their buck when purchasing gifts 😜 BTW, Hawaii is beautiful this time of year!
6. RECEPTION
Guests will love this one! We just don’t get out as much during the winter, so having a wedding attend gives everyone a reason to party! Statistics say that weddings today are more about the guest experience than anything. What a cool way to wrap up or kick off the year! They won’t ever forget it. Plus, it’s likely many of your guests haven’t really seen anything like it before since not that many people get married in the winter months! I absolutely love to host, so something like this is tempting — just saying!

these are just a few of the reasons I think you should consider (or not be turned away from) a winter wedding! It really is just such a romantic time + such a reason to celebrate (+ get out of the house) between holidays!
I should also add that I love all of my weddings, but just wanted to write a post to give some insight as to why winter weddings aren’t so bad (+ in my opinion, completely underrated). I am curious to hear your thoughts on this!
